Sadness Is A Sign Of Grief And Lowered Self Esteem

ASK KAREN: Anita felt sad, depressed, and unmotivated. She was in tears most of the time. She had been in Singapore for 15 months with her husband and daughter, aged two. Since arriving Anita had made good attempts to settle in by joining a playgroup and getting involved in voluntary work at a Home for the Elderly. She had left behind a satisfying career as an Occupational Therapist and hoped to find paid work in Singapore once she had “found her feet”.

Anita wanted to feel worthwhile, not just as though she was on a holiday. Her husband did not seem to understand – he simply encouraged her to join more groups and have more of a social life. Anita felt guilty about feeling sad when others envied her lifestyle and the financial security she enjoyed.
