Unmet Expectations

An expectation is something that we thought would happen, the way we imagined things would be or the way something “should be”. It is not necessarily something that we consciously think about. Yet if our expectation is not met, it results in us experiencing a negative emotion that we then often attribute to someone else. We will feel either disappointed, or irritable, or resentful (angry) depending on the importance of the thing to us that we thought should or would happen.
