Fear is a painful emotion caused by impending danger or evil event, state of alarm, dread of something, or anxiety (extreme worry) over life changes. Fear is pain perceived in the future. Fear arises from our thoughts – how we feel depends on how we think. Fear is a negative emotion felt as stress in our body.
The body manages well with an optimal level of stress. The adrenalin generated up to that level of stress is needed for flight or fight. When our thoughts focus on pain perceived in the future, the resulting negative emotions of anxiety and fear can increase stress beyond that optimal level, causing the body to produce adrenalin in excess of what the body needs. The additional adrenalin produces physiological, cognitive, and emotional symptoms of a stress reaction (see below).
